The
Denny organisation is a group of privately owned South African
companies, marketing a range of food products for both the
local and international markets. |
 |
Denny
is South Africa’s largest marketer of fresh and processed
mushrooms. As a market leader in South Africa, Denny has become
a trusted household name and is respected for the freshness,
quality and reliability of its products and services. Mushrooms
are marketed under the Denny brand and as dealer-own-brands
for the major retailers in South Africa: mushrooms are also
supplied to the industrial and food –services industry. |
 |
Denny has become synonymous with innovation and markets a
wide range of mushroom varieties, including a range of ready-to-use
sliced seasoned mushrooms, and a range of ready-to-use mushroom
salads. These products are all suitable for export on a daily
basis. |
 |
In addition, Denny markets a range of high-quality
processed sauces, soups and stocks. Many of these are mushroom-based,
and most are packaged in cans or standing DOY pouches. Some
of these products are marketed under the prestigious Denny brand,
but the processed division of the organisation specialises in
the manufacture of Dealer Own Brand (OEM) products. |
 |
Denny recently acquired the Peppadew business which has added
another dimension to the organisation: the Peppadew range of
Sweet Piquanté Pepper products is causing a sensation
in markets around the world. Discovered in South Africa and
exclusive to the Peppadew brand, the Sweet Piquanté Peppers
are prepared in a secret recipe which gives them a unique balance
between hot, spicy and sweet flavours and a very pleasant mouthfeel.
Peppadew Sweet Piquanté Peppers are very versatile, adding
an unusual taste to meats, salads, sauces, sandwich fillings
as well as pizza toppings and are thus attracting increasing
interest from the growing food services industry. |
 |
Peppadew products are listed in over 2000 stores in the U.K.
including Sainsbury, Tesco, Waitrose, Morrisons. Sales are also
being made into Scandinavia, Canada, Switzerland and Japan. |
 |
The Denny organisation is committed to providing consumers
around the world with quality products designed to meet the
needs of modern lifestyles. Ongoing research and development
ensures that products align with the latest food trends. |
 |
Manufacturing facilities apply recognised international food
standards and HACCP principles, together with sanitation best
practices. Denny has over 1000 employees and is committed to
the people who are responsible for its future. Teamwork and
shared leadership are the cornerstones of the management philosophy. |

In terms of production facilities, the mushroom division consists
of three large modern Dutch shelf operations situated in Durban,
Cape Town and Johannesburg. There is also a mushroom processing
plant attached to the Johannesburg fresh mushroom operation,
which produces a range of value-added canned mushrooms in addition
to basic mushrooms in brine. |
 |
The convenience food range is produced in a modern factory
located in Cape Town, near all major services, particularly
fresh mushroom and vegetable supplies. Technology service providers,
as well as a major harbour is also easily accessed from this
site. Equipment used is of the best technology available enabling
a wide range of products to be produced. Due to the Rotary Retort
Process employed, significant process time improvement is achieved
which significantly reduces the overprocessing of foods found
in conventional static retort processes. |
 |
The sweet piquante pepper range of products are produced in
Tzaneen, north west of Johannesburg. This production facility
includes a processing facility, a bottling line (for retail
sales ) and a pouch packing line (for food service sales). |
